Are You a Yahoo?

The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book Gulliver’s Travels. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.

The fourth and last adventure of Gulliver’s Travels gives us the word “Yahoo.” To be called a Yahoo is, to say the least, not a compliment. But Gulliver says he is one — and he says you and I are too!!!

FedEx Logo – The Hidden Symbol

Have you ever spotted the hidden white arrow in the Fedral Express Logo. Look closely at the white gap between the “E” and the “x”. This is a very creative way of ultilising the shapes in a logo. I love clever creativity!

English Students – Creative Team Building

Fifteen students from the Global Village English School, in Noosa, doodled on three 12″ x36″ canvas panels. The students could choose any canvas panel to paint on yet the groups separated by nationality; the Koreans painted on the Left, the Brazilians in the middle and the rest of the World on the right. LOVE IT!

The Male Sex Symbol – Mars and Iron

A symbol that is used to represent the male is the shield and spear of the Roman God Mars, with the spear pointing North East.  In Greek Mythology. Mars is the god of WAR so it’s associated with men.

In astrology, Mars influences all things masculine, and filtered through its particular sign reveals how anything is pursued, from a potential sexual partner to a career.

Also, this alchemical symbol for iron, represents the male sex:

Iron is a most abundant metal, and is believed to be the tenth most abundant element in the universe.  As such, iron rules physical strength, and symbolizes predominantly male energy. Philosophically, iron represents a need to temper primal urges while at the same to embracing the fire within.

The ADIDAS Symbol and a Brother’s Feud with PUMA

The 3-Stripes mark is without doubt the quintessential adidas symbol. It was created by the adidas company founder, Adi Dassler, and first used on footwear in 1949.Dassler created a symbol that could be immediately recognized when his footwear was used in athletic competition and associated with adidas. He emphasized the association with the slogan “The Brand with the 3 Stripes”. The 3-Stripes were first used on apparel in 1967. The 3-Stripes now enjoy worldwide recognition as an adidas
symbol.

Adidas was founded in 1948 by Adolf “Adi” Dassler, following the split of Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik between him and his older brother, Rudolf. Rudolf later established Puma, which was the early rival of Adidas. Registered in 1949, Adidas is currently based in Herzogenaurach, Germany, along with Puma.

Both brothers joined the Nazi Party, but Rudolf was slightly closer to the party. During the war, a growing rift between the pair reached a breaking point after an Allied bomb attack in 1943 when Adi and his wife climbed into a bomb shelter that Rudolf and his family were already in: “The dirty bastards are back again,” Adi said, apparently referring to the Allied war planes, but Rudolf was convinced his brother meant him and his family. After Rudolf was later picked up by American soldiers and accused of being a member of the Waffen SS, he was convinced that his brother had turned him in.

The brothers split up in 1947, with Rudi forming a new firm that he called Ruda – from Rudolf Dassler, later rebranded Puma, and Adi forming a company formally registered as adidas AG from Adi Dasler on 18 August 1949. The acronym All Day I Dream About Sport, although sometimes considered the origin of the adidas name, was applied retroactively, which makes it a backronym. The name is actually a portmanteau formed from “Adi” (a nickname for Adolf) and “Das” (from “Dassler”).
